    Zero- and Few-Shot Event Detection via Prompt-Based Meta Learning

    With emerging online topics as a source for numerous new events, detecting unseen / rare event types presents an elusive challenge for existing event detection methods, where only limited data access is provided for training. To address the data scarcity problem in event detection, we propose MetaEvent, a meta learning-based framework for zero- and few-shot event detection. Specifically, we sample training tasks from existing event types and perform meta training to search for optimal parameters that quickly adapt to unseen tasks. In our framework, we propose to use the cloze-based prompt and a trigger-aware soft verbalizer to efficiently project output to unseen event types. Moreover, we design a contrastive meta objective based on maximum mean discrepancy (MMD) to learn class-separating features. As such, the proposed MetaEvent can perform zero-shot event detection by mapping features to event types without any prior knowledge. In our experiments, we demonstrate the effectiveness of MetaEvent in both zero-shot and few-shot scenarios, where the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance in extensive experiments on benchmark datasets FewEvent and MAVEN.Comment: Accepted to ACL 202

    FREPA: An Automated and Formal Approach to Requirement Modeling and Analysis in Aircraft Control Domain

    Formal methods are promising for modeling and analyzing system requirements. However, applying formal methods to large-scale industrial projects is a remaining challenge. The industrial engineers are suffering from the lack of automated engineering methodologies to effectively conduct precise requirement models, and rigorously validate and verify (V&V) the generated models. To tackle this challenge, in this paper, we present a systematic engineering approach, named Formal Requirement Engineering Platform in Aircraft (FREPA), for formal requirement modeling and V\&V in the aerospace and aviation control domains. FREPA is an outcome of the seamless collaboration between the academy and industry over the last eight years. The main contributions of this paper include 1) an automated and systematic engineering approach FREPA to construct requirement models, validate and verify systems in the aerospace and aviation control domain, 2) a domain-specific modeling language AASRDL to describe the formal specification, and 3) a practical FREPA-based tool AeroReq which has been used by our industry partners. We have successfully adopted FREPA to seven real aerospace gesture control and two aviation engine control systems. The experimental results show that FREPA and the corresponding tool AeroReq significantly facilitate formal modeling and V&V in the industry.     Experimental study of aerospace solid propellant fracturing in simulated coal sample

    Coal reservoirs with high gas content and low permeability seriously restrict the efficient production of coal and coalbed methane. It is necessary to fracture and enhance the permeability of coal reservoirs. Aerospace solid propellant deflagration can generate a large amount of high-energy gas to impact coal reservoirs, which can achieve the purpose of fracturing and enhancing permeability of coal reservoirs. To study the characteristics of aerospace solid propellant for fracturing coal, a solid propellant for fracturing and permeability enhancement of coal reservoir was firstly researched and developed based on the formula of civil aerospace solid propellant, was, and its performance, sensitivity, pressure and temperature resistance were tested. The aerospace solid propellant fracturing test was then carried out using simulated coal samples, and the borehole wall pressure and strain within the simulated coal samples were monitored during the test. Finally, the destruction characteristics of simulated coal samples were analyzed according to the test results. The results shown that the aerospace solid propellant had good performance, with the advantages of waterproof, pressure resistant, and no CO generation, which could be adapted to the underground environment of coal mine. During the test, the time curve of the borehole wall pressure shown the stages of rapid pressure rise, slow pressure rise, and nonlinear pressure drop, in which the rise time of the borehole wall pressure was about 18 ms. The peak pressure in the borehole was low and unevenly distributed. The peak pressure in the middle of the borehole was 118.1 MPa, and the peak pressure at the bottom of the borehole was 85.3 MPa. Stress wave generated in simulated coal sample during aerospace solid propellant fracturing was composed of compressive and tensile phases with low intensity, long duration and slow decay with distance. The aerospace solid propellant fracturing technology was dominated by the quasi-static action of high-energy gas, with high utilization of stress wave energy. The research results provide a reference for the application of aerospace solid propellant in the field of coalbed methane mining

    Tourism experiences reduce the risk of cognitive impairment in the Chinese older adult: A prospective cohort study

    Background: Given the etiological complexity of cognitive impairment, no effective cure currently exists for precise treatment of dementia. Although scholars have noted tourism’s potential role in managing cognitive impairment and mild dementia, more robust empirical investigation is needed in this area. This study aimed to examine the associations between tourism and cognitive impairment and dementia in older Chinese adults. Method: From a nationwide community-based cohort, 6,717 individuals aged ≥ 60 were recruited from 2011 to 2014, of whom 669 (9.96%) had had at least one tourism experience in the 2 years prior to enrollment. All the participants were then prospectively followed up until 2018. The association between tourism and cognitive impairment was examined by the Cox proportional hazards regression model. The adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) and its 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated to evaluate the effect of tourism experience on cognitive impairment and dementia. Results: A total of 1,416 individuals were newly diagnosed with cognitive impairment and 139 individuals with dementia onset during follow-up. The incidence of cognitive impairment was significantly lower among participants with tourism experiences (316.94 per 10,000 person-years) than those without such experiences (552.38 per 10,000 person-years). Cox regression showed that tourism decreased the risk of cognitive impairment (aHR = 0.69, 95% CI: 0.41–0.62) when adjusted for behavioral covariates and characteristics. Compared with participants without tourism experiences, those with 1, 2, and ≥ 3 tourism experiences had a lower risk of cognitive impairment with the aHRs of 0.72 (95% CI: 0.52–0.99), 0.65 (0.42–1.01), and 0.68 (0.44–0.98), respectively. Tourism experiences also reduced participants’ risk of dementia (aHR = 0.41, 95% CI: 0.19–0.89). Conclusion: Our findings demonstrated associations between tourism and reduced risks of cognitive impairment and dementia in older Chinese adults.     Temporal bone osteoblastoma involving temporomandibular joint diagnosed as simple disc disorders: A case report

    BackgroundOsteoblastoma is quite rare in the oromaxillo-facial region, while the mandible is always the predilection. However, in our case, the lesion was located in the left temporal articular tubercle, involving the adjacent skull base, which is extremely rare in the literature.Case reportsIt had been diagnosed as the most common temporomandibular joint disorder in the local hospital before the patient came to our department, mainly due to the primary symptom, that was, the patient got pain in the left temporomandibular joint area while opening the mouth. However, we found a mass of bone lesions at the left temporal articular tubercle in MRI and cone beam CT, and it turned out to be an osteoblastoma after surgery. The patient's primary symptom disappeared after recovering from the surgery, and there have been no indications of complication or recurrence up to now.ConclusionOsteoblastoma is very rare in the temporomandibular joint region. It could easily miss the possibility of a benign tumor due to its unusual location and confusing chief complaint in this case. Our report provides experience in the identification of osteoblastoma in rare sites

    An evaluation of EQ-5D-3L health utility scores using five country-specific tariffs in a rural population aged 45-69 years in Hua county, Henan province, China.

    BACKGROUND: This study aims to compare the performance of the recently developed Chinese (city) tariff of the EQ-5D-3L against the UK, US, Japanese and Korean tariffs in a general rural population in China. METHODS: From November 2015 to September 2016, 12,085 permanent residents aged 45-69 from 257 villages randomly selected from Hua County, Henan Province, China, were interviewed using EQ-5D-3L, and a one-on-one questionnaire investigation was used to collect data on factors associated with HRQOL. The health utility scores were calculated using the UK, US, Japanese, Korean and Chinese (city) tariffs. The agreement, known-groups validity and sensitivity of these five tariffs were evaluated. Transition scores for pairs of observed EQ-5D-3L health states were calculated and compared. RESULTS: The Korean tariff yielded the highest mean health utility score (0.963), followed by the Chinese (city) (0.948), US (0.943), UK (0.930) and Japanese (0.921) tariffs, but the differences in the scores of any two tariffs did not exceed the MCID. The Chinese (city) tariff showed higher ICC values (ICCs> 0.89, 95% CI:0.755-0.964) and narrower limits of agreement (0.099-0.167) than the Korean tariff [(ICCs> 0.71, 95% CI:0.451-0.955); (0.146-0.253)]. The Chinese (city) tariff had a higher relative efficiency and effect size statistics in 10 out of 11 variables as compared to the UK, US and Japanese tariffs. The Chinese (city) tariff (0.215) was associated with moderate mean absolute transition scores compared with the UK (0.342), US (0.230), Japanese (0.149) and Korean (0.189) tariffs for 1485 observed pairs of the EQ-5D-3L health states. CONCLUSIONS: Health utility scores derived from the five tariffs differed. The Chinese (city) tariff was the most suitable of these tariffs and was without obvious weakness. We recommend adopting the Chinese (city) tariff when applying EQ-5D-3L to assess quality of life among the elderly in China's agricultural region with socio-economic status similar to Hua County. Results of this study had provided a crucial basis for health surveys, health promotion projects, health intervention trials, and health economic evaluation taking HRQOL as a target in rural areas of China
